Its solid connections with industrial automation & electronic engineers in the Northern region of Italy have allowed FEBA to adapt a technology from the industrial transportation field (EMDS) and applied it to the mechanical & electrical efficiency of their log slitting line thus effectively removing mechanical servicing & lubrication from the most critical portions of an automatic log slitter.

EMDS stands for Electro Magnetic Displacement System and this technology has allowed FEBA to produce the world’s first fully automatic “no intervention” slitting operation on a lathe slitting machine. The new EMDS has allowed FEBA to introduce a Top Level Specification for its lathe slitters and this specification sees the removal of lead screws and pistons for both the head traverse and penetration movements. EMDS actually lifts the slitting head and moves it to the next slitting position, faster than lead screws, without any mechanical inertia. The EMDS has also been fitted to perform the slitting action and has been found to be extremely successful on dealing with High Density Automotive Foams at narrow slit widths as well as mid yardage filmic tapes – 19,000 rolls in 8 hours achieved on the 4L-400 model while slitting logs of mid yardage Polyester Tape down to 12mm.
